THE DIOR MEDALLION CHAIR

An Immersive Installation Experience for a Design Icon

Dior Maison invited 17 artists to reinterpret the classic medallion chair as part of an immersive installation experience at SuperBlue (1101 NW 23rd St Miami, FL). This iconic design is based on the Louis XVI chair, which Dior adopted as a symbol of his eponymous fashion house. Each artist selected unique materials and levels of transformation for their interpretation of the design.

Sam Baron, Nacho Carbonell, Pierre Charpin, Dimorestudio, Khaled El Mays, Martino Gamper, Constance Guisset, India Mahdavi, nendo, Joy de Rohan Chabot, Linde Freya Tangelder, Atang Tshikare, Seungjin Yang, Ma Yansong, Jinyeong Yeon, Tokujin Yoshioka and Pierre Yovanovitch all contributed compelling work to the installation.

The result was further elevated by a powerful curatorial experience whereby the space was drastically lit, infused with subtle fog and fragrance, and connected to a gorgeous ambient music backdrop. This event was a true highlight of the Art Basel 2021 exhibition and offered perspective on a rapidly growing new art destination west of Wynwood.
